MAULDIN, SC (WSPA) – A company in Mauldin has announced its expansion and expects to add 669 new jobs.
Gobal Lending Services provides auto loans, and on Wednesday the company said it will invest $ 0.2 million to expand its operations in Mauldin.
“Greenville has been a great home for GLS. The city has created a tremendous growth climate for our organization, ”GLS CEO Steve Thibodeau said in a press release. “The talented workforce, along with the focus on automotive and consumer credit, aligns well with our vision for GLS. We are excited about the next phase of our growth and look forward to many years of continued growth and success in Greenville. ”
A company spokesperson declined to answer questions about the new jobs, but Greenville County Council Chairman Butch Kirven told 7News the Posts would pay an average of around $ 50,000 a year.
Global Lending Services employs over 550 people in Greenville County and is looking to more than double that number with the addition of 669 new jobs.
“It will be more administrative type work, service type work, customer relations,” Kirven said. “Not exactly a call center, but similar.
Kirven said those jobs would pay between $ 22 and $ 25 an hour. Mauldin City Council member Scott Crosby said investing in jobs will help other local businesses as well.
“This is going to be a lot of jobs for the people of Mauldin, and other businesses will benefit from the support of these people,” Crosby said. “As a board member, these are the things that concern me. “
GLS works with car dealers and their customers to help people pay for their new and used cars. In a press release, the company announced that its expansion would take place over five years.
“They’re going to add just over 100 jobs over the next five years, over a hundred a year,” Kirven said.
7News asked Kirven if college degrees were needed to do this work.
“I’ve asked this question of people working with the company as well, and some do and some don’t,” he said. “Some are newbies, and they can start, grow and be promoted to other jobs. But basically if you have basic administrative skills and are good at communicating, writing, emailing, I think that stuff is what they will be looking for.
GLS said it has already started hiring. They have about 30 jobs in Greenville County posted on their website, including sales, IT, and customer service positions.
