Gray stone enlisted a 30-year commercial real estate veteran to help expand their loan origination platform.
The Manhattan-based lender on Tuesday announced the hiring of Romano Tio of Ackman-Ziff as Senior Managing Director to focus on large transactions and extend lending to a wider range of asset classes. Tio, who joins Greystone’s commercial finance team led by Scott chisholm in New York, was until recently Senior Managing Director of Ackman-Ziff. Over the past four years, he has managed $ 10 billion in transactions.

Before joining Ackman-Ziff, Tio co-founded RM capital management, where he was responsible for advising on debt and equity transactions. In this role, he has also led recapitalizations and restructurings on behalf of public companies, private equity funds and business owners.
Prior to that, Tio helped start and manage distressed commercial mortgage principal investments at HCP Real Estate, subsidiary of a multi-billion dollar hedge fund Harbinger Capital Partners.

Tio graduated from Hofstra University in Long Island with a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry and a minor in biology.
