It was a sunny and extremely humid Thursday morning. Of course, that’s almost the norm for Dallas, and that wasn’t going to stop these three women from showing up for the August magazine cover shoot with an energy and excitement that couldn’t be stopped. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and I would say this cover is worth a lot more than that. These three women of influence not only carry the grace and lessons of those who came before them, but they leave an invaluable legacy for the next generation of leaders. Rebecca McDonald, Product Manager at Rocket mortgage, Pam Perry, Vice President for Single Family Fair Housing at Freddie mac, and Hilary Saunders, Co-Founder and Head of Brokers at Side, are all featured on the cover and were named one of HousingWire’s 2021 Women of Influence. I had the honor of sitting down with them to learn more about the projects they are passionate about, how they are making a difference and what advice they would share with industry players.
Here is the interview with Hilary Saunders, Co-Founder and Head of Brokers at Side.
BN: First off, congratulations on being named the 2021 Woman of Influence. If you were standing on a stage giving an acceptance speech, who would you like to thank for helping you get to where you are? today ?
Hilary Saunders: That’s a great question, and to be completely honest, these are our partners. I would thank my partners in general because they trusted us and continue to trust us and what we do. Our mission is to uplift the entire real estate industry and to truly deliver an amazing consumer experience at the end of the day whether they are a buyer or a seller. Our partners are those who are in the field and who offer this experience.
BN: How do you create a work-life balance in your life and / or what does work-life balance mean to you?
Hilary saunders: I love this question, especially since I have identical 16 month old twin daughters and a seven year old boy, who are quite a handful. Work-Life Balance, honestly, if you’re passionate about what you do, it’s not balanced. I think it’s really about finding that underlying passion, so work, for me, is part of my life. And so, my whole family is a part of it. My son kept listing dates with me when he was a baby and advertised for me. It’s a family affair. Ultimately, as long as you can take time for yourself and know that the team you’ve built and formed is there to get the mission done, then you can take time for everything.
