Source Defense extends client-side security and data privacy

External monitoring, detection and alerting solution added to the award-winning protection-based capabilities already present in the Source Defense platform. The company is launching a program to provide organizations with visibility into security and compliance during the period of the website code freeze.

Source Defense, the pioneer and market leader in client-side protection of web applications and data privacy compliance, today announced the release of Source Defense 3.0. The release extends the Source Defense platform to include an external monitoring, detection and alerting offering (Source Defense Detect), making the company the only one in the market to offer both detection and protection solutions (Source Defense Protect) for client-side attacks and breach of data privacy. With this release, Source Defense adds enhanced functionality for enterprise, security, and risk/compliance stakeholders to manage their websites’ supply chains. Additionally, it provides the most extensive capabilities available to organizations worldwide to meet client-side security guidelines found in the latest version of the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS 4.0).

The company addresses a major concern related to third-party supply chain risk, which has had a significant negative impact on thousands of businesses over the past decade. One of the largest and least quantified business vulnerabilities is the use of client-side JavaScript on the website. Client-side code, delivered in real time by third parties (as well as fourth and ne part) supply chain partners, helps to drive and improve website user experience, increase engagement and generate analytical insights. Typical web properties rely on dozens of these supply chain partners, and that supply chain is comprised entirely of unmanaged and unprotected ghost code.

In the “best case scenario”, this shadow code introduces the possibility of data privacy breaches due to unauthorized capture and sharing of data by these partners. In the worst case, it effectively acts as the soft underbelly of opponents on any major website. This fertile and highly profitable threat and attack surface has resulted in hundreds of high-profile incidents and led to more than 400 client-side attacks (e.g., credential harvesting, formjacking, and Magecart attacks) per month in over the past two years, making headlines. at major brands such as Macy’s, Ticketmaster, British Airways, Segway and many more.

Source Defense 3.0 introduces tiered packages to provide solutions tailored to each customer’s unique needs and budget. The Source Defense platform now includes:

  • Source Defense Detect – an all-new solution that uses external analytics, AI-driven algorithm detection, and advanced alerts to notify organizations of threat activity and data privacy breaches that need to be reported without unnecessary noise and without needing to touch the code of the site to deploy
  • Source Defense Protect – the same AI-powered protection offering that already protects over $20 billion in annual online revenue and thwarts nearly 10 billion compliance policy violations per year, with virtually no resources to monitor
  • A completely revamped management platform providing rich data for multiple stakeholders across business, security and compliance roles – including high-level role-based intelligence and reporting, with the ability to drill down to more in-depth information
  • A PCI DSS compliance management dashboard supporting script authorization and justification of those running on payment pages

“Source Defense is already recognized by the world’s leading companies and the cybersecurity industry as an innovator and pioneer in addressing the risk of data leakage and theft on websites,” said Dan Dinnar, Director General of Source Defense. “With the addition of these new capabilities, the Source Defense Platform becomes the most comprehensive of any offering in space. We now offer a multitude of solutions for organizations of all sizes to control the security and compliance risks they face on their websites in a way that is simple, easy to manage and extremely cost effective.

The company recognized this emerging problem, established a dominant position in the market and continues to grow rapidly as a leader in its category. A fanatical focus on customer satisfaction has led to multi-year engagements and customer retention with many of the world’s largest website owners. Earlier this year, Source Defense closed a major B round of funding to fuel its growth, and the company is seeing significant renewed interest in its unique ability to meet new guidelines under PCI DSS 4.0.

“Our flagship offering remains Source Defense Protect,” said Hadar Blutrich, CTO at Source Defense. “Our customers appreciate the ease with which we deploy, the virtually non-existent management burden and the automatic avoidance of security and compliance risks. However, we recognized the need in the market for a detection-based solution that better meets the needs of organizations with tight budgets or those with a robust security operations infrastructure where detection and alerting are part of the normal course of operations. We are proud to expand our offerings to include Source Defense Detect – which includes all the strengths our customers currently enjoy. We’re even prouder that we now have a scalable path for organizations to continually improve their website security.

As part of this press release, the company announces a program to provide organizations entering periods of website code freezes visibility into client-side security and compliance. Under the program, Source Defense will provide external monitoring, detection and alerting with adjusted terms and conditions that introduce no barriers to adoption. The solution can be activated virtually instantly and offers significant risk reduction for these organizations as they enter a period of increased adversarial activity.

“Too many organizations are blind to the threat of data leakage and theft introduced by their 3rd party website supply chain,” said Jason Moore, vice president of global sales at Source Defense. “We are committed to giving them the visibility they need to mitigate this significant risk. Many organizations, especially those engaged in e-commerce, are about to enter a period of website code freezes. This period usually lasts throughout the shopping season which runs from October to January – the same period that attracts attacks. We combine the announcement of our 3.0 product launch with a program designed to provide immediate insight into website security and data privacy compliance risks, and we’re ready to help.
