Stonehill Announces Strategic Leadership Additions to Grow Commercial Lending Business

ATLANTE, May 18, 2022–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Stonehill, a commercial real estate direct lender, has announced the expansion of its management team with four senior executive hires. Joining the organization are Daniel Siegel, Greg Koenig, Nisu Mehta and Taylor Pike. The addition of these leaders represents a strategic step in Stonehill’s vision to expand its commercial lending business into all real estate sectors.

About the new leaders

The new group has decades of real estate experience across many facets of the industry and spanning multiple economic cycles.

Siegel is President of Stonehill’s Commercial Real Estate Lending Group, overseeing the group’s expansion into commercial real estate lending. Prior to joining Stonehill, he was managing director of a large private equity firm and responsible for high yield investments. Prior to joining that company, Siegel was vice president of acquisitions at Rialto Capital, overseeing the distressed loan acquisitions platform. During his tenure at Rialto, Siegel directly oversaw the acquisition of commercial real estate loans on domestic and international opportunities. Additionally, he developed the company’s low balance loan acquisition platform and led the company’s first European acquisition. Siegel holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from Tulane University.

Koenig is senior vice president at Stonehill. Prior to joining Stonehill, he was an executive director of a large private equity firm, focusing on debt issuances across all asset classes. Prior to that, Koenig was senior vice president at Newport RE, a Germany-based real estate investment firm, focusing on acquisitions and asset management for its US portfolio. Previously, he was vice president of Rialto Capital, where he helped underwrite and manage loan portfolios. Prior to joining Rialto, Koenig worked at TriMont Real Estate Advisors, facilitating lending transactions and maximizing returns from distressed assets. Koenig holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Connecticut, where he majored in real estate and urban economics.

Mehta is senior vice president at Stonehill. Prior to joining Stonehill, he was an executive director of a large private equity firm, where he was lead originator and underwriter focusing on debt and equity investments in the Southeastern United States. Prior to that, Mehta was Director of Investment Management at Rialto Capital. , where he oversaw acquisitions of entire loan portfolios and identified and helped underwrite equity investments in the Southeastern United States. Additionally, he has helped Rialto’s B-piece CMBS platform become one of the biggest players in the industry. He earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an MBA from Emory University.

Pike is senior vice president at Stonehill. Prior to joining Stonehill, he was an executive director of a large private equity firm, where he initiated debt investments. Prior to that, Pike worked as an analyst at Rialto Capital, where his primary responsibilities included loan asset management and underwriting. He graduated from the Terry School of Business at the University of Georgia and earned a bachelor’s degree in finance and economics.
